Suspension Definition Chemistry

Suspension Definition ChemistrySuspension definition chemistry is the science of understanding chemistry and its components. Suspension is the second most important substance in a chemical reaction. Chemical reactions occur when two substances react together. The first essential part is oxygen, which is the medium that fuels chemical reactions and makes the working world go round. The first part of suspension definition is the idea of viscosity. Viscosity, in this form, refers to the elasticity of a substance - it's that thin layer that has no friction when stretched.Liquid suspension is defined as a viscous suspension. In other words, the liquid will flow faster through a medium than the same mass of air. This is why a well oiled engine or forklift truck will not go as fast as an overshot tire on ice. The difference in viscosity between water and other liquids explains why automobiles run so much smoother. The second part of the definition is the speed of the molecular transfer. This is defined as the speed at which the molecules from one substance to move through the other. This also relates to the changes in conductivity - the way a chemical acts when exposed to different temperatures. The speed of the molecules in a fluid determines how quickly it is driven by the movement of the particles through the medium. At a certain point in the fluid, the fluid's flow becomes more viscous and the particles in the fluid move faster. If they are further than the speed of sound, they become sonic and start losing velocity. Thus, in terms of physics, a solid and a liquid are called slow-moving when they move at the same speed. The next step in suspension definition is determining the typical shape of suspension. It can be viscous, curvilinear, spherical, polygonal, non-polar, cylindrical, and hysteresis. The cylindrical form is the most common since it is simply a circle with a radius that differs from time to time. The hysteresis forms part of the simplest suspension where no movement is allowed after a certain period of time. The last step in suspension definition is calculating the definition of each component of suspension. For example, both solids and liquids need their own properties in order to become suspension. Thus, solids with molecular density different from the gas molecules' molecular density forms solid suspension, while liquids with different densities form a liquid suspension.

University of Virginia A Student Interview

University of Virginia A Student Interview The tutors behind Varsity Tutors are not just here to teach theyre sharing their college experiences as well. Trevor is a Philadelphia tutor and 2012 graduate of University of Virginia. He holds a Bachelors degree in Environmental Science and tutors several subjects, including Environmental Science tutoring, Geology tutoring, and Spanish tutoring. Check out what Trevor had to say about his time at University of Virginia: VT: Describe the campus setting and transportation options. How urban or safe is the campus? Are there buses or do you need a car/bike? Trevor:University of Virginia, where I attended school as an undergraduate, is known for its beautiful campus (called grounds by its students and faculty). The Rotunda is even a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The campus itself is fairly safe, and the administration has implemented several safety features, including blue emergency telephones and SafeRide, a late-night service that students can use to return to their homes or dorms. Charlottesville is mostly quite safe, and it offers great restaurants, entertainment venues, and outdoor activities. Getting around is easy the university has a student-operated bus service that runs from as early as 5:15 a.m. to as late as 2:00 a.m. on some nights. City transit is free to university students, and it is very accessible. However, many students enjoy biking around campus, and a car is helpful, especially for students living off-grounds. VT: How available are the professors, academic advisers, and teaching assistants? Trevor:I would imagine that this is highly department-specific. However, in my experience, professors were very accessible. They were willing to help students with both academic and professional questions. Furthermore, University of Virginiais a major research university, so its professors are, in many cases, highly accomplished researchers. This leads to a very stimulating environment for motivated undergraduates. VT: How would you describe the dorm life rooms, dining options, location, socialization opportunities with other students? Trevor:Dormlife at University of Virginia offers students as much interaction with roommates and suitemates as they like. In my experience, many students developed strong relationships with those individuals who shared their dorms or suites. University of Virginia has three dining halls, all of which are open at different times. They all offer different options, so it is hard not to find something satisfying. There are also a number of on-campus cafes that are great for mid-day snacks. Charlottesville is known for its great restaurants, and many smaller cafes offer affordable prices for students. The university also offers a number of special residential colleges that require applications. While I never lived in one of these, my friends who did found the experience unique and stimulating. VT: Which majors/programs are best represented and supported? What did you study and why? Did the university do a good job supporting your particular area of study? Trevor:My major was Environmental Science, which is a fairly large department. Lots of research goes on in the department in a variety of areas, and undergraduates can certainly participate. I chose my major because I found it interesting, but I would say that I was lucky in the sense that the department is very strong. I also took several upper-level courses in the Spanish department, which is also highly recognized. While I found that many of the classes were a bit too large to allow for really detailed discussion, the professors were very interesting and knowledgeable. Moreover, a fairly wide variety of courses were available, which is not always the case for language departments. VT: How easy or difficult was it for you to meet people and make friends as a freshman? Does Greek life play a significant role in the campus social life? Trevor:The best way to make friends at University of Virginia was to join student organizations. I met nearly all of my friends that way, while a few others I met in classes. That said, Greek life is very big at University of Virginia, and many students participate. I, however, chose not to. VT: How helpful is the Career Centerand other student support services?Do many reputable companies recruit on campus? Trevor:I used the Career Center in my final semester to try to improve my chances of finding a job. For my particular field, the Career Center did not offer much assistance. That said, it did seem as though many companies, particularly those related to Finance and Business Management, were interested in recruiting University of Virginia students. VT: How are the various study areas such aslibraries, the student union, and dorm lounges? Are they over-crowded, easily available, spacious? Trevor:Libraries are major study areas at University of Virginia, and there are many of them. Each offers a unique study environment, and they are all very easy to access. For students who need very quiet environments to study, such as myself, the three major libraries all have areas dedicated to quiet study, and in two cases, those areas allow almost complete isolation from other students. All three libraries also have space for group work and for students who enjoy a slightly louder environment. VT: Describe the surrounding town. What kinds of outside establishments / things to do are there that make it fun, boring, or somewhere in between? To what extent do students go to the downtown area of the city versus staying near campus? Trevor:Charlottesville is quite stimulating for a town of its size (less than 100,000 people). Students definitely venture out into town quite frequently, but some prefer to stay near campus. Again, it largely depends on what you enjoy doing. The downtown area has a number of great restaurants, quirky shops, and thrift stores, as well as bars for those interested in nightlife. Charlottesville is located more or less in the mountains, so for those interested in outdoor activities, it is ideal. I found all of these activities to be very accessible, both when I had a car and when I did not. Charlottesville is also quite close to Richmond and Washington, D.C., both of which are larger cities with additional opportunities. VT: How big or small is the student body? Were you generally pleased or displeased with the typical class sizes? Trevor:I believe there are about 15,000 undergraduates. Lower-level classes tend to be quite large, especially in introductory Economics, Biology, Chemistry, and Politics courses. These courses may exceed 300 students. However, for humanities and social science courses, smaller discussion sections are often included, which give students some more personal interaction with instructors. As you begin to take higher-level courses, the class size decreases. For my upper-level Spanish courses, class size never exceeded 25, and I took at least two Environmental Science courses where there were 12 or fewer students in the course. This means that first and second year students will probably take larger courses, while third and fourth years will take smaller courses. VT: Describe one memorable experience with a professor and/or class. Perhaps one you loved the most or one youregretthe most. Trevor:In my first semester, my introductory Spanish literature course was very small, with about seven students all in different years of school. I was very intimidated at first, but as the course progressed, I gained more confidence because of the other students and because of our professor, who was actually a Ph.D. student. It was that course that prompted my interest in 20th century Latin American literature, and it ultimately propelled me to keep taking courses in the field. I do regret not having time to take more courses in some of the universitys strongest departments, such as English and Politics. Check out Trevors tutoring profile. Business English Phrases for Meetings - Learn English with Harry

Business English Phrases for Meetings - Learn English with Harry Wherever, wherever you are, keep safe and keep  well. Today were going to talk to you about some business English  expressions.  In particular, were going to look at English phrases for meetings, around the start and perhaps the closing of meetings. So if youre not used to  hosting a meeting, particularly if youre not used to hosting (meaning to hold a meeting in English)  well,  hopefully some of the English phrases  for meetings that I have for you would be helpful. Useful English Phrases for Meetings Like all meetings at the beginning, theres often a lot of small talk, particularly if you havent seen the people for a while. There may be talk about how they got there to the meeting.Did they find the office okay?Did you need a taxi? What is  the weather like? What was the flight like? It’s something that you can use as small talk. And of course, a lot of meetings take place, not physically, but on a conference call. So in this case what you’re going to say wont make any difference. The expressions and phrases would be exactly the same.Of course, the small talk might be a little bit different because theyre going to be in their own offices and havent travelled. So you might just ask something about the weather, the football match the family, if you know them well, whatever it may be. But small talk always helps to break the ice and get people warmed up and ready for the meeting. If youre the chairman of the meeting, then you can start by saying something like:Hi guys, welcome. And tha nks  for joining us.Hello everybody. Thanks for phoning in. (if its a conference call)Lets get the meeting started.Let’s kick offWhy don’t we start?Everybody seems to be present. Anybody else can join later as they come. We’ve a lot to coverWe’ve a lot to get throughso yet youre making everybody aware that the meeting wont go on longer than is absolutely necessary. But we have a lot to get through. We have a lot to cover. So the sooner we start, the sooner the meeting will end. English Phrases for Meetings - Infographics Enjoyed this infographic? Here's what you can do next: If youve got a very formal structure and somebody kept minutes or the notes on the last meeting, well its always a good place to start.Lets start with the minutes of the last meeting.Has anybody got any questions arising from those minutes?Meaning is there anything in the minutes that they need explained or they dont understand or something has fallen through the, the um, instructions that hasnt been followed up. Okay.So lets start with the minutes of the last meeting as anybody got any questions or anything they wished to add. So somebody might like to add something following on from that particular meeting. Something has perhaps has changed, some action has taken place that has resulted in something either been resolved or perhaps it is now off the agenda. Its a good opportunity at the beginning of the meeting just to find out where everybody is.If you want to know has everybody read the minutes:Is everybody okay with the minutes?  Has everybody understood the minutes and is there a nything additional to add?Anything extra that people should know?Lets start with the minutes of the last meeting. Anybody, any questions or anything they wish    to add or would like to add before we move on?So again, youre just letting people know that we just spend a few minutes with this and then well move on to the items that are specific to this particular meeting today. Okay? You should all have a copy of this weeks agenda. So youre setting the scene, youre going to refer to this agenda. In case of anybody around the table or on the conference call who hasnt got a copy of it, then you would be happy to send it to them.So everybody is up to date, lets get onto the first item. So this is the next part:What is the first item to be covered? So you look around and you see who is the most appropriate person to cover this first item. So you might pick somebody like Michael and you can say:Okay Michael, can I come to you first? Can you give us a quick update as to where we are with the n ew product development?Or the application or the design. So depending on what business youre in, you want this guy Michael who is probably the key person involved in this part of the product or the project. You want him to give everybody an an update as to where we are. So youre identifying him and he is then going to give everybody a quick update as to where he is aware the company is with the application, with the product, with the development, whatever it happens to be.And then you will thank him.Okay, thanks Michael. Thats very clear. Anybody, any questions? Anybody got anything to add?And then again, you open it to everybody around the table or in the various conference  locations if they, anything that they wished to ask specifically.Next. So this is again, were going to move on to the next point.  Whats next?Lets move on.We, as I said, weve got a lot to do so there  are  a couple of these points that we may be able to get through quite quickly. So again, youre letting people know that you dont want to spend all day on  these points. And then you might ask some questions of the people.Have you had time to consider? Question, what can you add to improve the situation? Are there any obvious elephant traps? Are there any obvious impediments? Anything that you can add?If people start talking about things not particular to what you want to talk about, well then pull them back.Okay guys, lets stick to the point that stick to the agenda.I know theres a lot you want to talk about, but no, we can cover those outside the meeting.I really want to stick to the agenda and want to stick to the point we are getting off the point. Please,  lets stick to what we are talking about. Lets not wonder.Lets stick to our agenda and lets stick to the points that we are talking about. So very clearly letting people know that you want to cover everything. Theyll get a chance to raise issues later on.  Somebody might ask some questions:Can you give us some more detail? And I really need some

Allergies in the back to school season. - ALOHA Mind Math

Allergies in the back to school season. CT State Department of Education school health consultant Stephanie Knutson talks in this article about how parents need to work with the school to create a safe environment for children with food allergies. This is not the only type of allergy to be concerned about, and here are a few ways in which parents can deal with kids who are susceptible to allergies going back to school in this season: Food Allergies: If your child suffers from an allergic reaction to specific types of food, you need to make sure that this information is available in her health records, as well as communicate with her teachers in school personally if possible. In case of children eating at school, the food preparation needs to take this into consideration and avoid common allergy causing ingredients, or if not avoid, label them. The above-mentioned article also mentions that you must authorize the school to use emergency medication such as an epi-pen after consulting with your pediatrician. Breathing and Ast hmatic Allergies:Make sure that your child has the necessary medication at hand for an emergency situation. Write a note to the teacher specifying what sort of situations might trigger the allergy â€" such as excessive exercise, exposure to pets, to chalk dust, or to the dust in the playground. In this way, someone at school will be alert in case they see the child feeling uncomfortable in any of these situations. Kids and allergiesImage Courtesy:http://www.freedigitalphotos.net Nasal Allergies: Some conditions like allergic rhinitis or hay fever may not lead to high-alarm situations, but can still cause a child a lot of discomfort. It would be ideal if the child takes their medication before going to school, for relief during the day. Do inform the teacher and nurse, if you think any specific allergens need to be avoided. Allergy to bites: Some children may have a severe reaction to insect bites or stings, and similar to the food allergies you need to make sure that the school has some injectable epinephrine that can be used in emergency situations. Discuss with the teachers and the school nurse regarding the procedure that would be followed in such a situation. It is definitely possible to work with the school authorities to make it easier for your child to handle any allergies while at school. While physical allergies can be difficult to deal with, when addressing the aptitude for studying and levels of concentration of your child, we at Aloha USA can hel p to focus and improve the same. GSK Campaign Aims To Help Prevent Meningitis

GSK Campaign Aims To Help Prevent Meningitis https://raymondpronk.files.wordpress.com U.S. Paralympic cyclist and meningitis survivor Jamie Schanbaum helped launch the campaign with world-renowned photographer Anne Geddes and Dr. Len Friedland, Vice President, Director Scientific Affairs and Public Health, Vaccines North America for GSK. U.S. Paralympian wheelchair rugby player and meningitis survivor Nick Springer will also tell his story of survival throughout the campaign to help educate on the importance of vaccination. “I was in my first semester at my dream college when I learned one of the hardest lessons of my life. What I first thought was the flu turned out to be meningitis and I ended up losing all of my fingers and both legs below the knees,” Schanbaum said in the press release. The largest vaccines manufacturer in the world,  GSK launched a website to help parents and young people learn about meningococcal meningitis, the risk factors, how it can be spread, the symptoms, the impact of the disease and protective measures.  Visit  www.meningitis.com  for more information. “When it comes to meningitis, what you don’t know  can  hurt you. That’s why I have joined with GSK in this effort to educate others about meningitis, Schanbaum said. I urge everyone to take five minutes to learn the facts and what they can do to help prevent it.”

Will They Buy What Youre Selling Personal Marketing 101

Will They Buy What You're Selling Personal Marketing 101 Photo by RedBalloon Advertisers via Flickr Marketing is commonly associated with trying to sell something (which it is) and using pushy techniques to do so (think door-to-door salesmen). As negative as it may seem, there is still no arguing the fact that its an essential part of growing business and selling products; and now, it has also become an essential part of the job search. In essence, the time has come to market yourself. The good news is that marketing doesnt have to give you the feeling that youre selling yourself along with your humanity under a stormy sky. In fact, following the steps below will greatly increase your chances of landing the job you want and will help you to create a place for yourself within your field. Identify Yourself and Your Strengths Larry Chiagouris, professor and author of The Secret to Getting a Job After College,  stated  for USA Today, Students should list what theyre good at and what they like to do, then they should take that list and apply it to a career direction. It is important that you know your skills, how to implement them and why an employer would need them. Knowing, fully, your passions and strengths is the foundation to having the confidence to market yourself  to potential employers; without it youre more likely to fumble during an interview or give vague, generalized descriptions of skills rather than specialized, knowledgeable ones. Be Authentic Once youve determined your skill set, make sure your resume, LinkedIn profile and all other aspects of your brand remain authentic. This is essentially letting your personality shine through while still demonstrating your skill set. Alyson Weiss, social media specialist, stated  in an article for Career Moves: The key to successful branding language is  authenticity, not a specific tone  and strategically using a combination of industry buzzwords that will immediately mean something to a target connection, notable accomplishments that back these buzzwords up, and unique language that helps you stand out in the crowd. Define Your Goals and Your Audience Set goals for yourself, such as where you would like to be in six months and where you see yourself. This will help you decide exactly where you dont want to be, so you then can market effectively in the direction you wish. After deciding on a goal, focus on areas of marketing that will help you get there, and people or companies you need to reach to make it happen. Once you determine this target audience Develop Your Story I put this step ahead of networking for several reasons, mainly because in lieu of knowing your skills like the back of your hand, having a story to back up these skills appeals to human nature, and therefore potential employers. This shouldnt be mistaken for a fabrication of how you came to be, but rather a story of you as the product. Typically, this is put into the elevator speech, which is something well discuss in an upcoming tip. Susannah Breslin, freelance journalist and Forbes contributor, stated  in an article for Forbes, Products don’t exist in space. They are plot points in stories. And increasingly consumers want their products embedded in stories. More often than not, people are not buying your product, she wrote. They are buying your story.   Beslin also goes on to mention Oprah Winfrey as an example of a person who has sold their life story. If you look carefully, you will also notice that most highly successful blogs and self-improvement books tell the authors story as a backdrop for the information theyre providing. Tailor Your Online Profiles This goes for LinkedIn, your online resume or portfolio and any other networking sites youre utilizing. These are where you feature your story, showcase your skills and interact with other professionals, so you should be sure to tailor them to your brand. Keeping yourself, as a brand, consistent across platforms also confirms the authenticity of your skill set. Network After you have developed your story, identified your audience and tailored your marketing efforts across your online platforms, its time to network. This includes attending and volunteering at events within your marketing scope and developing your elevator pitch. This is commonly a 60-second speech that outlines who you are and what you can do, and the more you can craft it into a story, the better. Christine Clapp, a member of Toastmasters, stated in an article,That personal story you share will help establish a connection and build rapport with listeners. People at networking events don’t always remember a name, but they can usually recount an interesting narrative, she wrote. People enjoy listening to stories because they are entertaining and more memorable than highlights from a resume. It is also important that the first sentence of your elevator speech outlines the services you provide, effectively, describing yourself as the solution to a problem faced by your clients, Clapp stated. Look, Listen and Learn In addition, learn from others in your field or niche that are successful and that you admire. Attend one of their seminars, read one of their books or browse their blog. Pay attention to the details of how this person presents themselves and how it has worked for them. How is their website set up? How do they market their qualities on their website or in their portfolio? You will find that most of these individuals are able to effectively use a mix of showing their skills through the use of showcasing their work and telling them through their professional title, which breaks away from in-your-face, pushy marketing techniques; i.e., You must hire me now, because I have everything youve been looking for. I am one-of-a-kind. Hire me, I can do it! As you can see, this type of language comes off as slightly desperate and, in all respects, pushy. There is a way to let potential employers know you have the qualities they are looking for by  showing them, and by letting your work and your story do the telling. There are also assertive ways of doing this that dont involve desperate pleading, such as requesting a face-to-face meeting or following up with a networking contact through a direct phone call. Always remember, at the end of the day, its important that you develop a nearly unshakable confidence while marketing yourself, and that you market your true (albeit professionally polished) self. Lastly, dont be afraid to step inside and out of the rain. Run your own business, get control of your future, make an impact on your life.
